Born in Madrid in 1943. His father was Marcelo Barbero I (1904-1956), one of the most　famous Spanish master craftsmen of the first half of the 20th century. When he was 13　years old, his father Barbero I passed away, and he was apprenticed in the workshop of　Jose Ramirez III. Later, Arcangel Fernandez, an apprentice of Barbero I, opened his own　workshop, and Barbero Hijo entered as an apprentice there in 1957.
The guitars that were shipped with the "Arcangel Fernandez Workshop" label were in fact　completely handcrafted by Barbero Hijo himself, and were loved by core guitar fans as　having a quality as high as that of his mentor Arcangel.
From the late 1990s, he also produced guitars under his own original label, and was　showing increasing refinement and enrichment, until his untimely death in January 2005.
His slightly rigid tone evokes the best traditions of the Spanish guitar, which were passed　down to his master, Arcangel, and even to his father, Barbero I. The more he approached　the last years of his life, the more his reputation grew.

This is a Marcelo Barbero Iho 2001 classic model guitar with the Arcangel Workshop label(Para Casa Arcangel Fernandez). It is a precious piece from his last years, as he closed hislife in 2005. It is an excellent piece that maintains the Spanish tradition of uncompromising　quality, Madrid-style solidity, and a gentle, clear sound, while at the same time strongly
reflecting Barbero Hijo’s own personality. The sound is full for a late work of Hijo’s,and the entire body of the instrument vibrates with the typical Madrid massiveness, partly due to the
effects of ample playing over time.
There are no cracks or other major repairs or modifications. There are some scratches and scuffs throughout. A protective sheet has been used on the treble side of the sound hole, and there are marks on the sound board.
