[Profile]
The 'Aguado' brand was a collaboration between Santiago Manuel Hernandez (1895-1975) and Victoriano Aguado Rodríguez (1897-1972). Hernandez was responsible for body construction, while Aguado oversaw painting, headstock work, and general supervision. Recognized as one of the most renowned classical guitar makers of the late 20th century, their instruments became highly regarded for their exceptional tone and craftsmanship.
Hernandez, born in Valmojado, Spain, moved to Madrid at the age of eight, where he met Aguado. After working together at the 'Corredera' piano workshop, they opened their own business in 1941. In 1945, they sought advice from the celebrated guitarist and composer, Rejino Sainz de la Maza, which led them to focus exclusively on guitar making. With guidance from De la Maza and Modesto Borreguero, their guitars gained significant popularity, and at one point, the brand had a waiting list of over 70 customers.
Aguado guitars are known for their distinctive tonal quality, often compared to the human voice—expressive, warm, and at times, sharp and powerful. Hernandez's daughter, Emilia, succeeded Aguado after his passing and continued their legacy, producing masterpieces that upheld the spirit of the brand.
