[Profile]
Karel Dedain Karel Dedain was born in 1976. Karel Dedain is an internationally acclaimed guitar maker with a workshop in Gent, Belgium, as well as Walter Verreydt, a Belgian guitarist. Originally he studied graphic arts, but when he was 20 years old he started playing the flamenco guitar, and being a good woodworker, he decided to make a guitar for himself. He decided to make a guitar for himself and studied with Walter Verreydt at the CMB (Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw), an instrument-making school in Belgium. Karel says, 'There was no tradition of guitar making in Belgium. This, in turn, gave freedom of choice to those who wanted to make guitars. To realize my vision, I researched what suited my style, regardless of country or school of guitar making. And in terms of materials, I had to go to different countries to find the wood and jigs needed to make the pieces.' In the course of this voracious pursuit of his own style, he also built modern guitars with lattice construction and double tops, eventually settling on guitars made by Spanish master craftsmen such as Torres, Arias, Garcia, Simplicio, and Manuel Ramirez. He now produces exquisite replicas and ‛Inspired' (i.e., reconstructed with his own creativity) models, as well as his own original models. His delicate craftsmanship, rare perfection and skill in faithfully reproducing the essence of the originals, high playability, and perfect acoustics are comparable in quality to his mentor, Verreydt, and have earned him a high reputation.
In recent years, he was featured in Orfeo Magazine, a web magazine published by Camino Verde, a French art publisher (which also featured his mentor Verreydt and other Belgian makers). He has also been featured in the same publication's maker series (Santos Hernandez, René François Lacôte, and Vicente Arias), for which he created full-size drawings. His drawings are extremely precise and are one of the key contents that enhance the documentary value of these books.

[Description]
This is a Vicente Arias model made by Karel Dedain, a wonderful new piece that arrived in Japan at the end of 2023. It is a unique model by Vicente Arias (1833-1914), a Spanish master craftsman who lived at about the same time as Torres, and is based on a ring rosette design. The combination of the finest European spruce and bird's eye maple produces a wonderful appearance. The sound is also extremely unique and vivid, as if the wood is speaking. It has a power that one would not expect from a smaller body, yet it is natural and musically restrained. The full sound characteristic of maple is pleasant and has a romantic resonance that reminds us that the original guitar was made in the 1880s. The 640 mm specification of this instrument allows for medium tension of the strings, which makes it easy to grip.
This is the first introduction in Japan of this fulfilling instrument that lives up to the expectations of the man who showed his solid ability to reproduce with deep insight and reproduction in 'Vicente Arias: The Forgotten Master Craftsman,' published by Camino Verde.
