[Profile]
Juan Francisco Salvador Gimenez (1946-2010) was born in La Canada de San Urbano, Armenia, Andalusia, Spain. The label is printed “Bisnieto deTorres” with the builder's name, indicating that he is the great-grandson of Antonio de Torres (1817-1892), a master builder also born in Almería, and the originator of classical guitar making up to the present day. He began his apprenticeship as a woodworker in 1959 at the age of 13, and in 1973, at the age of 23, he began making guitars based on a formwork left to him by his great-grandfather. He visited the master craftsman Jose Luis Romanillos, who had a workshop in Semley, England at the time, on several occasions to receive advice on guitar making.
His guitars, built in the style of Torres but with more time for his own research, have a different appeal from those of his great-grandfather. The brand was a rare instrument on the market today because of its limited production (only one or two guitars per year).

[Description]
We are pleased to announce the arrival of a rare 2000 No.23 made by Juan Francisco Salvador Gimenez in the style of his great-grandfather, Torres, in terms of sound board shape, head shape, rosette, purfling, and other external design, as well as internal construction. It is a piece that has been created in the style of Torres.
It has a thick sound with plenty of woody texture, and the impression is that the low to mid tones come forward, somewhat reminiscent of South American guitars. The tone is subdued overall rather than having a Spanish-like clarity, and the appearance is also vintage. The modest, cohesive, salon-like sounding manner is reminiscent of Torres in some ways, and the natural sound is appealing as well. The rosette has an opulent design based on the design of Torres' high-spec models, with herringbone and bold lightning pattern purfling, but the colors are unified in brown and beige for a subdued appearance. The head is a distinctive Torres design, finished entirely in candy-colored shellac.
There is no major repair history. There are some minor playing scratches from around the soundhole to the side of the fingerboard, and a few fingernail scratches on the back of the neck, but none of them detract from the appearance. There is a golpe board attached to the treble side of the soundhole, but this was applied after shipping and is not original.
